CATHOLIC APOLOGISTS FROM LUZON
OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENT
V.P. LENI ROBREDO - President
SEN. KIKO PANGILINAN - Vice President
We, Catholic apologists from Luzon, united as one in our private capacity, after having undergone a process of discernment through a series of meetings, dialogues, and consultations, arrived at the decision of endorsing Presidential Candidate, Maria Leonor "Leni" Gerona Robredo and her running mate for Vice President, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan in the coming May 9, 2022, National Elections. This decision is the fruit of prayers and diligent studies of the qualifications of the candidates for the two highest positions. We want leaders who are equipped with competence, integrity, and experience in managing our country at this much troubled time.
VP Robredo and Sen. Pangilinan are not tainted by graft and corruption; not involved in any criminal case involving violations of human rights or tax evasion. They have admirable academic credentials and sterling performance as elected officers. Most of all, they are God-fearing persons living with Christian values and with proven track records of dedicated service to the poor. Also, they are not coming from political dynasties, making them good role models for youth. We are convinced that they will be faithful and dedicated servant-leaders for our people.
This endorsement is inspired by the courageous stand of our numerous bishops and priests, religious men and women, who gave their 'blessings' to Leni and Kiko. Various Catholic lay organizations and leaders of Catholic educational institutions have raised the same voice. We are also inspired by the stand of the Council of the Laity of the Archdiocese of Manila, Archdiocese of Lipa, Diocese of Legazpi, Diocese of Paranaque, the Diocese of Tarlac, and others who endorsed Leni and Kiko much earlier. Finally, The Sangguniang Layko ng Pilipinas has issued the same endorsement. We stand with our shepherds and lay leaders.
We rise as one during this difficult moment. We respond to the call of the Gospel for us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world" (Mt 5:13-16). Pope Francis invites us towards a renewed appreciation of politics as a lofty vocation and one of the highest forms of the charity since it seeks the common good" (Fratelli Tutti, #180). Pope Francis echoes the Pastoral Constitution of the Second Vatican Council which commands the faithful to exercise their rights to vote (Gaudium et Spes, no. 75).
We answer the call of the Holy Father to be active in politics, especially at this time when political dynasties are banding together to preserve their families' hold on power. We unite ourselves with our Bishops who warn us of the forces who are trying to overturn the democratic gains of EDSA 1986 which toppled the dictatorship and restored our freedoms (Cf. CBCP Pastoral Letter for May 9, 2022 Elections). As one people we unite with our shepherds in opposing the heir of Dictatorship and the remnant of the evil of Martial Law. As one People of God, we declare: "Never Again!"
