CARDINAL SANTOS OF MANILA WAS CONSERVATIVE DURING VATICAN II BUT HE NEVER JOINED LEFEBVRE! HE REMAINED FAITHFUL AND LOYAL TO POPE PAUL VI UNTIL DEATH!

Yesterday, we commemorate the death anniversary of Cardinal Rufino Santos. But 𝐷𝐼𝐷 𝑌𝑂𝑈 𝐾𝑁𝑂𝑊? Cardinal Rufino Santos, the First Filipino Cardinal was a member of the conservative-wing of the Second Vatican Council.

During the Second Vatican Council, Cardinal Santos was one of the 49 bishops and archbishops from the Philippines to attend the council, He was a member of the conservative-wing of the Council known as the ‘Coetus Internationalis Patrum’ together with Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre (Superior CSSp) and 200+ other members, the group was the most important and influential interest group of the “conservative” or “traditionalist” minority at the Second Vatican Council.

According to Msgr. Moises Andrade, Cardinal Rufino Santos refused to abandon the Pre-Pauline Rite or Tridentine Mass and disapproved its celebration “ad popolo” even after the reforms of Vatican II. It was only during the 1970 Papal Visit of the late Pope Paul VI that he allowed the Novus Ordo Mass known then as the “People’s Mass” in deference to the Pope.

CARDINAL SANTOS DIDN’T JOIN LEFEBVRE. CARDINAL SANTOS AND CARDINAL OTTAVIANI LIVED AND DIED FAITHFUL TO ST. POPE PAUL VI. CARDINAL WOJTYLA AND THE POLISH BISHOPS WERE ALSO CONSERVATIVE DURING VATICAN II BUT THEY REMAINED FAITHFUL TO POPE ST. PAUL VI. UNLIKE LEFEBVRE WHO BECAME A REBEL AND A TRAITOR. SO HE WAS EXCOMMUNICATED. LEFEBVRE DIED EXCOMMUNICATED WHILE CARDINAL SANTOS, CARDINAL OTTAVIANI, VEN. FULTON J. SHEEN AND THE SUPER MAJORITY OF THE COUNCIL FATHERS REMAINED FAITHFUL TO THE POPE.

THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CONSERVATIVE FAITHFUL AND THAT OF A CONSERVATIVE TRAITOR! CARDINAL OTTAVIANI, CARDINAL SIRI, CARDINAL SANTOS, CARDINAL WOJTYLA AND THE OTHER CONSERVATIVES REMAINED FAITHFUL TO THE POPE!

THE REAL CONSERVATIVES IN VATICAN II LED BY OTTAVIANI AND CARDINAL SANTOS OBEYED THE POPE AND DIED FAITHFUL TO THE POPE. LEFEBVRE WAS SILENT DURING THE COUNCIL AND ONLY GATHERED DUST IN HIS SEAT. THEN BECAME DISOBEDIENT AFTER THE COUNCIL. LEFEBVRE EVEN SIGNED THE DOCUMENTS OF THE COUNCIL FOR APPROVAL BUT HE BECAME REBELLIOUS AGAINST HIS OWN SIGNED APPROVAL.

[According to Msgr. Moises Andrade, Cardinal Rufino Santos refused to abandon the Pre-Pauline Rite or Tridentine Mass and disapproved its celebration “ad popolo” even after the reforms of Vatican II. It was only during the 1970 Papal Visit of the late Pope Paul VI that he allowed the Novus Ordo Mass known then as the “People’s Mass” in deference to the Pope.]

THE POINT THERE IS NOT WHETHER CARDINAL SANTOS LIKED OR DISLIKED THE AD VERSUS POPULUM (FACING THE PEOPLE) WAY OF CELEBRATING THE MASS, BUT THE FACT THAT HE EVENTUALLY AND ULTIMATELY IMPLEMENTED THE MASS OF POPE ST. PAUL VI. HE DIDN’T IMPOSE HIS PERSONAL PREFERENCES OVER THAT OF THE FINAL DECISIONS OF THE HOLY FATHER.

NATURALLY, CARDINAL SANTOS WAS VERY OLD ALREADY DURING THE VATICAN II. THE HOLY SEE GAVE PROVISIONS FOR THOSE WHO ARE ALREADY VERY OLD OR SICKLY TO CONTINUE CELEBRATING THE TLM. SO PADRE PIO AND CARDINAL SANTOS CONTINUED CELEBRATING TLM BECAUSE OF OLD AGE BUT THEY NEVER JOINED LEFEBVRE. THEY REMAINED FAITHFUL TO THE POPE.

THE MASS OF POPE PAUL VI WAS OFFICIALLY APPROVED ONLY ON NOVEMBER 30, 1969 AND IT TOOK TIME TO FULLY IMPLEMENT IT. THE PAPAL VISIT WAS MADE FROM NOV 27-30, 1970 SO ONLY A YEAR AFTER THE PROMULGATION OF THE PAULINE MASS. NATURALLY, IT TOOK SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE IT WAS PROPERLY IMPLEMENTED. EVEN WHEN THE ENGLISH TEXT OF THE PAULINE MASS WAS IMPLEMENTED UNDER POPE BENEDICT XVI IT TOOK MANY MONTHS BEFORE THE CHURCH OF THE PHILIPPINES CAN IMPLEMENT IT IN OUR ENGLISH MASSES. JUST THE PRINTING OF THE ROMAN MISSALS AND SACRAMENTARIES ALONE TOOK A LOT OF MONTHS TO FINISH. HOW MUCH MORE THE TRANSITION FROM TLM TO THE PAULINE MASS.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS THAT CARDINAL SANTOS DIDN’T DISOBEY OR DISRESPECT THE POPE. HE MADE IT SURE THAT WHEN THE POPE COMES FOR THE PAPAL VISIT THE NEW RITE OF THE MASS HAS BEEN PROPERLY CELEBRATED AS PROMULGATED BY ST. PAUL VI.

CARDINAL SANTOS DIED IN 1973 AND HE PASSED AWAY FAITHFULLY WITHOUT CREATING ANY ACT OF DISOBEDIENCE TO THE POPE.

Pope leads Catholic Church in mourning death of Queen Elizabeth II

Pope leads Catholic Church in mourning death of Queen Elizabeth II

Pope Francis has offered his condolences to King Charles III for the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, the UK’s longest-serving monarch.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I offer heartfelt condolences to Your Majesty, the Members of the Royal Family, the People of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth,” the Holy Father said.

The Pope said he joined everyone who mourns her loss “in praying for the late Queen’s eternal rest, and in paying tribute to her life of unstinting service to the good of the Nation and the Commonwealth, her example of devotion to duty, her steadfast witness of faith in Jesus Christ and her firm hope in his promises.”

Pope Francis also commended “her noble soul” to the mercy of God the Father.

“I assure Your Majesty of my prayers that Almighty God will sustain you with his unfailing grace as you now take up your high responsibilities as King,” the Pontiff told King Charles.

“Upon you and all who cherish the memory of your late mother, I invoke an abundance of divine blessings as a pledge of comfort and strength in the Lord.

Cardinal Vincent Nichols led tributes to the Queen on behalf of English and Welsh Catholics following her death in Scotland earlier in the afternoon.

The president of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales said Catholics throughout the country were “heartbroken in our loss” after Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral in the company of her closest family.

Bishop Hugh Gilbert of Aberdeen, the president of the Scottish Bishops’ Conference, also said Catholics in Scotland were deeply saddened to learn of the death of the monarch as the UK entered a period of mourning over 10 days.

The nation was informed at lunchtime that the Queen, 96, had fallen ill and her death was confirmed publicly at 6.30pm and that her reign of 70 years had ended.

Her eldest son succeeds her as King Charles III and Camilla will serve as Queen Consort, it has been confirmed.

The Queen died almost a year and a half after the death of her Philip, 99, her husband for 73 years.

Cardinal Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster, said: “On 21 April 1947, on her twenty-first birthday, Princess Elizabeth said, ‘I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service’,” said Cardinal Nichols.

“Now, 75 years later, we are heartbroken in our loss at her death, and so full of admiration for the unfailing way in which she fulfilled that declaration,” he said.

“Even in my sorrow, shared with so many around the world, I am filled with an immense sense of gratitude for the gift to the world that has been the life of Queen Elizabeth II,” he said. “At this time, we pray for the repose of the soul of Her Majesty. We do so with confidence, because the Christian faith marked every day of her life and activity.”

He continued: “In her Millennium Christmas message, she said, ‘To many of us, our beliefs are of fundamental importance. For me the teachings of Christ and my own personal accountability before God provide a framework in which I try to lead my life. I, like so many of you, have drawn great comfort in difficult times from Christ’s words and example’.

“This faith, so often and so eloquently proclaimed in her public messages, has been an inspiration to me, and I am sure to many. The wisdom, stability and service which she consistently embodied, often in circumstances of extreme difficulty, are a shining legacy and testament to her faith.

“Our prayer is that she is now received into the merciful presence of God, there to be reunited with her beloved Prince Philip. This is the promise of our faith, and our deep consolation.

“Queen Elizabeth II will remain, always, a shining light in our history. May she now rest in peace.”

Cardinal Nichols added: “We pray for His Majesty the King, as he assumes his new office even as he mourns his mother. God save the King.”

Bishop Gilbert “It was with great sadness, that we learned today of the death of Her Majesty the Queen. Her life of outstanding service during a reign of 70 years stands as an example of dedicated public service in our own country, across the Commonwealth and around the world.

“Her determination to remain active to the end of her long life, has been an example of Christian leadership, which demonstrated her great stoicism and commitment to duty and was undoubtedly a source of stability and continuity in times of great change.

“Scotland’s Catholic bishops will remember her in our prayers and pray for all those who mourn her loss.”

Elizabeth was born in Mayfair, London, on 26 April 1926 to Prince Albert, Duke of York, and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who ascended to the throne following the abdication of Edward VIII.

Princess Elizabeth was just 25 and touring Kenya when she was told that her father, King George VI, had died unexpectedly in his sleep at Sandringham, Norfolk, and that she was Queen.

During her coronation in Westminster Abbey on June 2 the following year, the young monarch was open about her Christian faith.

“When I spoke to you last, at Christmas, I asked you all, whatever your religion, to pray for me on the day of my Coronation – to pray that God would give me wisdom and strength to carry out the promises that I should then be making,” the Queen said in her address. “Throughout this memorable day I have been uplifted and sustained by the knowledge that your thoughts and prayers were with me.”

The Queen’s final major act of office was to receive the Prime Minister Liz Truss in Scotland two days before she died.

King Charles said in a statement: “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.”

Queen Elizabeth passed Queen Victoria in 2015 to become Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

Ms Truss said the UK would now offer its “loyalty and devotion” to King Charles. “With the passing of the second Elizabethan age, we usher in a new era in the magnificent history of our great country, exactly as Her Majesty would have wished, by saying the words ‘God save the King’,” she said.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II dies at age of 96

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II dies at age of 96

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and of Great Britain and Northern Ireland dies on Thursday at the age of 96.

By Francesca Merlo & Sophie Peeters

Née Elizabeth Alexandra Mary on 21 April 1926, and made queen in 1952 after the death of her father King George, Queen Elizabeth was the world’s longest reigning monarch–having served as Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as of 14 other commonwealth realms.

The Queen died on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral Castle, her residence in Scotland in Aberdeenshire.

New King's tributes

Britain's new king, King Charles III, released a statement on Thursday after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth.

"The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” the new king said.

"We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”

British Prime Minister Liz Truss also paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth following the monarch's death.

°We are all devastated by the news we have just heard from Balmoral," she said. "The death of Her Majesty the Queen is a huge shock to the nation and to the world.”

“Britain is the great country it is today because of her,” the newly-appointed Prime Minister said. “Through thick and thin, Queen Elizabeth II provided us with the stability and the strength we needed.”

“It is a day of great loss, but Queen Elizabeth II leaves a great legacy,” Ms. Truss concluded.

The Queen and the Popes

In her over 70 years of reign, besides meeting 15 British Prime Ministers, from Winston Churchill to, most recently, Liz Truss, who went to Balmoral Castle to meet with the Queen as she was already in poor health, the Queen personally met 4 popes—of the 5 pontificates in her lifetime.

Queen Elizabeth meets Pope John XXIII in the Vatican on 5 May 1961

The monarch first visited the Vatican in 1951 as Princess Elizabeth. The Pope at the time was Pius XII. Queen Elizabeth's first visit as Queen took place on 5 May 1961. She and Prince Philip were received in audience by Pope John XXIII.

In 1980, Queen Elizabeth made a state visit to the Vatican and was received in audience by Pope John Paul II. Just two years later, the Polish Pope made a pastoral visit to Great Britain.

With the dawn of the new millennium, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visited the Vatican once again, in October 2000.

In September 2010, Pope Benedict XVI visited Great Britain on an Apostolic Journey on the occasion of the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman and met the Queen in Edinburgh.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died in May 2021, met with Pope Francis in the Vatican in 2014.

The meeting marked the 100th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and the Holy See.

Marking the Queen’s platinum jubilee, Pope Francis sent a message to the Queen on 2 June 2022:

“On this joyful occasion of your Majesty’s birthday, and as you celebrate this Platinum Jubilee year, I send cordial greetings and good wishes, together with the renewed assurance of my prayers that Almighty God will bestow upon you, the members of the Royal Family and all the people of the nation blessings of unity, prosperity and peace.”

“ANG HABA RAW NG PRAYERS TAPOS NAGFAFAST PA PO AKO AND SURE NA RAW KO NA SASAGUTIN NA RAW AKO NI LORD?” [PART 1]

“ANG HABA RAW NG PRAYERS TAPOS NAGFAFAST PA PO AKO AND SURE NA RAW KO NA SASAGUTIN NA RAW AKO NI LORD?” [PART 1]

And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.” (Matthew 6:7 English Standard Version) ngunit bago natin panindigan sa sinabi ni Kristo ukol sa pagbabawal nga raw ng pagdarasal sa Santo Rosaryo at sa madaling salita ay pagbabawal sa pagdarasal ng paulit ulit ating ikumpara ang naturang salin sa ibang Bible Translation katulad ng New American Bible Revised Edition na ganito ang naturang bersyon ng Biblia na Bibliang Katoliko, “In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words.”(Matthew 6:7 NABRE) at ikumpara naman natin sa New King James Version,“ And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.”(Matthew 6:7 NKJV).

They use the King James version because it contains “vain repetitions.” Liddell and Scott Greek-English Lexicon have this on the root: βατταλος= βαταλος. II. stammerer (cf. Battapizw), a nickname given to Demos thenes, Aeschin. 2.99, cf. D.18.180. (Codd. Vary between βάταλος and βάτταλος: Βάτταλος pr. N. in Hedyl. Ap. Ath.4.167d.) The New American Bible (Revised Edition) translates “babble” which interestingly captures some of the sound of the Greek.“In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words”(Matthew 6:7, NABRE).So etymologically, the word should mean something like “speak like a stammerer”.A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature notes that the verb appears, apart from literature dependent on Matt 6:7 and Luke 11:2, only in the Life of Aesop and in Siimplicius (6th c.), meaning something like “talk idly.”According to Catholic Bible scholars, the Lord Jesus condemns prayers of Pagans. “He condemns the babbling prayer of the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. He is not criticizing persistence in prayer (see 7:7–11) or repetition, which is biblical and pleasing to God (Dan 3:52–68; Ps 136; Rev 4:8). Rather, Jesus condemns a common pagan practice of reciting divine names and formulas to implore the gods to act on their behalf” (The Gospel of Matthew (Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture) Edward Sri and Curtis Mitch, Baker Academic; 2nd in a series of 17 edition (December 1, 2010),p. 105).[1]

(Mateo 6:9 MBB05) at ikukumpara naman sa sulat ni San Lucas ika: “And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.”

O SEE!

Bishop calls for boycott of Marcos film

Bishop Gerardo Alminaza. DIOCESE OF SAN CARLOS

By CBCP News

August 3, 2022

Manila, Philippines

A Catholic bishop in the central Philippine diocese of San Carlos did not mince words in calling for “boycott” of a controversial movie about the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s family.

Bishop Gerardo Alminaza of San Carlos described the film “Maid in Malacañang” as “shameless”, and called on the people behind it to issue an apology.

“The producer, scriptwriter, director and those promoting this movie should publicly apologize to the Carmelite nuns, to President Cory Aquino’s family and to the Filipino people,” Bishop Alminaza said.

The prelate was reacting to the movie trailer portraying the late president playing mahjong with a group of nuns.

Aquino sought refuge overnight at the Carmelite monastery in Cebu during the 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution.

The movie supposedly depicts the last 72 hours of Marcoses in Malacañang Palace, the official residence of the Philippine president.

While the characters were not wearing the Carmelites’ brown religious habit, the congregation said the allusion to them “is too obvious for anyone not to see”.

“We are praying for the unity of Filipinos. But this unity can only be built on truth and not on historical distortion,” said Sr. Mary Costillas, prioress of Carmelite Monastery in Cebu.

The statement was obviously in reference to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., whose election campaign circled around his call for unity.

“Depicting the nuns as playing mah-jong with Cory Aquino is malicious. It would suggest that while the fate of the country was in peril, we could afford to leisurely play games,” she added.

Bishop Alminaza challenged the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, which is under the office of the president, to act on the issue and exercise its mandate.

“Would the MTRCB act responsibly on this and perform its mandated duty?” he asked.
